Well, well, well. Look what HONOR’s been up to. They’ve just announced their first product from a partnership with Porsche Design. It’s a device they’re calling the Porsche Design HONOR Magic V2 RSR. And guess what? It was launched in China, right alongside the HONOR Magic6 and Magic6 Pro.
Now, here’s the kicker. Most of us were expecting a Porsche Design HONOR Magic6 Pro. But HONOR had other plans. They went ahead and launched the HONOR Magic V2 collab. And boy, did it take us by surprise!
Remember the HONOR Magic V2? It launched last year in China and was later showcased at IFA in Berlin. Now, it’s expected to launch globally. But before that, this Porsche Design model has arrived.
So, what’s different about this Porsche Design HONOR Magic V2 RSR? Well, it’s pretty similar to the regular Magic V2. But the back of the device is where the magic happens. It’s got a different backplate and camera island. Plus, you’ll find the Porsche Design branding there.
The backplate, according to HONOR, is “intricately reminiscent of the hood of a Porsche 911”. They also claim it improves the grip of the phone. And it’s available in one color, the Agate Grey, which is the color of a Porsche car.
The two companies have also “refined the choice of materials”. The phone weighs only 234 grams and it’s 9.9mm thick. And it comes with the industry’s first Anti-scratch NanoCrystal Shield.
The specs? They’re the same as the regular HONOR Magic V2. But this variant does top-out RAM and storage. It comes with 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 1TB of UFS 4.0 flash storage.
Under the hood, you’ll find the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. The phone has a 7.92-inch main display with a resolution of 2156 x 2344. It’s an OLED display with up to 120Hz refresh rate. The cover display measures 6.43 inches, and it has a resolution of 2376 x 1060. That’s also an OLED screen with up to 120Hz when it comes to resolution.
The phone packs a 5,000mAh battery and supports 66W wired charging. It comes with a charger in the box. The main camera is a 50-megapixel one (f/1.9 aperture, OIS, EIS). It’s backed by a 50-megapixel ultrawide camera (f/2.0 aperture). There’s also a 20-megapixel telephoto camera (40x digital zoom) on the back of the phone. And a 16-megapixel selfie camera on both displays.
The phone has two SIM card slots and comes with Android 13 pre-installed. HONOR’s MagicOS 7.2 is also a part of the package. It includes an IR blaster and supports 5G connectivity and Bluetooth 5.3.
The Porsche Design HONOR Magic V2 RSR goes on sale in China today. It’s priced at CNY15,999 ($2,252). We’re not sure if the company will release this handset globally, but it’s possible, as the Magic V2 is coming to global markets.
