Highlights
1. Samsung smartphones may receive a charging speed boost in the future, potentially jumping to 65W charging from their current fastest charging of 45W.
2. The Galaxy S20 Ultra was the only model in the lineup to support 45W charging, while the other models were limited to 25W charging. The Galaxy S22 also did not have 45W charging for all models.
3. The upcoming Galaxy S24 phones are expected to have the same charging specs as the previous models, with 45W for the Plus and Ultra models and 25W for the base model. However, there have been rumors of at least the Ultra model being upgraded to 65W charging.
4. Samsung’s supplier of smartphone charger transformers, Atum, recently added 65W and 140W chargers to its portfolio, potentially indicating a charging speed boost in the pipeline for Samsung devices. The 140W charger may be for laptops.
Samsung smartphones could be getting a much-needed charging speed boost in the future. Although the upcoming Galaxy S24 series will have the same charging speed as the previous Galaxy S20 series, there are indications that Samsung may increase the charging speed to 65W sometime in 2024 or later.
Samsung added 45W charging support to its flagship Galaxy smartphones in 2020, but only the Galaxy S20 Ultra was able to charge at that speed. The other models were limited to 25W charging. The following year, the company upgraded the Plus model to 45W charging as well, leaving the Galaxy S22 behind.
Based on leaks and certifications, it seems that the Galaxy S24 phones will have the same charging specs as their predecessors – 45W for the Plus and Ultra models, and 25W for the base model. However, rumors suggest that Samsung may be planning to upgrade at least the Ultra model to 65W charging.
There is some evidence to support this speculation. Samsung’s supplier of smartphone charger transformers, Atum, recently added 65W and 140W chargers to its portfolio. While it’s unclear if these chargers are specifically for Galaxy devices, there is hope that they may be related.
Furthermore, Atum is known to be the exclusive supplier of flat transformers for 45W chargers for Samsung. It is possible that they have also developed the 65W solution for the Korean firm. The 140W charger mentioned may be intended for laptops, as Samsung also produces laptops in addition to smartphones.
While Samsung’s charging speeds are not the slowest among Android phones, they are not as fast as some Chinese firms that are pushing the limits to over 200W. Even if Samsung were to introduce a 65W charger, it would still be relatively slower. However, Samsung may not rush to offer faster charging and may take its time to carefully evaluate things before making any changes.
Overall, it seems that Samsung is considering increasing the charging speed of its smartphones, possibly with a 65W charger. More information will be shared as it becomes available.
