Galaxy S21 Unlocked Receives Android 14 Update in the US

Finally, it’s here! Samsung has launched its Android 14-based One UI 6.0 update for the unlocked Galaxy S21 series in the US. This major Android update is now available to users across all major carrier networks. Those who haven’t received it yet, don’t worry, you’ll be joining the party soon.

“Android 14 now available for unlocked Galaxy S21 in the US.” That’s the headline we’ve been waiting for!

Samsung began rolling out Android 14 and One UI 6.0 to the Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21+, and Galaxy S21 Ultra back in November. After an international release, the update finally hit the US in early December. But here’s the catch – initially, only the carrier-locked units of the 2021 flagship trio got the update.

Back to the story. We all thought One UI 6.0 would roll out to unlocked units within a week or two. But, Samsung had other plans, keeping users waiting for over six weeks. The good news? The wait is over. The update is now rolling out to the unlocked Galaxy S21 trio with the firmware build number G99xU1OYM9FWL3. It’s available nationwide on most networks.

Now, this isn’t just any update. It’s a major Android OS upgrade. The over-the-air (OTA) update you’re getting is massive. We’re talking a download size of over 2GB. What’s in it for you? UI revamps, new camera features and editing tools, improved stock apps, smoother system animations, and many functional improvements for your Galaxy phone.

But wait, there’s more! Samsung is also pushing the December 2023 security patch with over 60 vulnerability fixes. So, your phone isn’t just getting new features, it’s getting security enhancements too. Samsung has already released the January 2024 patch, which is also available to the carrier-locked Galaxy S21 in the US. This one contains 80 security fixes. Unlocked units should get it in the coming weeks.

If you’re a Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21+, or Galaxy S21 Ultra user in the US and haven’t yet received One UI 6.0 or a new security update, here’s what you can do. Go to the Settings app, find the Software update section, and tap on Download and install. If there’s no update available for you, just wait a few days and check again.

“The aging Samsung flagships will get One UI 6.1 soon.” Another headline to look forward to!

Android 14 is the second last major Android OS upgrade for the Galaxy S21 series. The lineup will get Android 15 and that’s it. While the next version of Android is still several months away, another major feature update is on the way for the devices. Samsung is prepping One UI 6.1 with new AI features. Expect this update to roll out in the coming months.
