Qualcomm recently unveiled its latest flagship processor, the Snapdragon X Elite, designed specifically for laptops. This processor falls under Qualcomm’s new naming scheme for desktop-class processors.
Impressive Performance and Efficiency
Qualcomm boasts that the Snapdragon X Elite offers the “best-in-class CPU” with exceptional performance and power efficiency. Despite being an ARM-based processor, it is capable of delivering powerful performance for laptops.
Powerful Specs
The Snapdragon X Elite features Qualcomm’s new Oryon CPU, which utilizes a 64-bit architecture. It offers 12 cores and clock speeds of up to 3.8GHz, with single and dual-core boost capabilities up to 4.3GHz. Additionally, it is equipped with the Qualcomm Adreno GPU, providing up to 4.6 TFLOPs of graphical processing power.
Advanced Connectivity Options
Connectivity is a highlight of the Snapdragon X Elite. It supports WiFi 7, WiFi 6E, and WiFi 6, enabling laptops to take full advantage of faster network speeds offered by these technologies. The processor also supports multiple WiFi bands, including 2.4GHz, 5GHz, and 6GHz. Bluetooth 5.4 is also supported, and the processor features USB 4.0 with the ability to support up to three USB-C ports.
Built for AI
Similar to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, the Snapdragon X Elite is designed with AI capabilities. It incorporates the Qualcomm AI Engine with an integrated Qualcomm Hexagon NPU. This combination delivers enhanced experiences in areas such as creativity, video conferencing, security, and productivity assistance. The Snapdragon X Elite can run Generative AI LLM models with over 13 billion parameters on-device while maintaining blazing-fast speeds.
Availability and PC Vendors
Qualcomm anticipates that PCs equipped with the Snapdragon X Elite processor will be available starting in mid-2024. Currently, Qualcomm has not disclosed which PC vendors will be utilizing the Snapdragon X Elite. However, in the past, Lenovo and Samsung have released PCs featuring Snapdragon processors.
