Samsung Launches Galaxy S24 Series with Numerous New AI Features

Samsung‘s Galaxy S24 has made an early debut. The tech giant unveiled the new models at the Unpacked event in San Jose. The upgrades this year are pretty impressive, with Galaxy AI being the star of the show.

Galaxy AI is no gimmick. It brings a host of AI features to the Galaxy S24. We had a sneak peek at these features last week. Some of the highlights include Chat Assist, Transcribe Assist, and Live Translate. All these are integrated into the Samsung Keyboard, making your messaging experience smarter and faster.

The camera isn’t left out of the AI upgrade. Galaxy AI suggests edits for your photos and uses Generative AI to manipulate objects and people in the images. And here’s a fun fact: photos edited with Galaxy AI will have a tiny watermark in the corner.

Ready to buy? You can get your Galaxy S24 or S24+ at Samsung. Or maybe you’re eyeing the Galaxy S24 Ultra? That’s available too.

The Galaxy S24 and S24 Plus now boast larger screens but retain the same body size. Thanks to the reduced bezels, the S24 and S24 Plus now have 6.2-inch and 6.7-inch displays respectively. The S24 Plus also gets a resolution upgrade to QHD+. Both models feature Adaptive 120Hz refresh rate displays.

The Galaxy S24 Ultra keeps its 6.8-inch display, which is QHD+ with an adaptive 120Hz refresh rate. The internals are pretty impressive too. The US models feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, while the S24 and S24 Plus in other countries get the Exynos 2400. The S24 Ultra, however, gets the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 worldwide.

The S24 Plus comes with 8GB of RAM and either 128GB or 256GB of storage, and a 4,000mAh battery. The S24 Ultra, on the other hand, boasts 12GB of RAM and either 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB of storage. It also has a 5,000mAh battery. Both models feature a 50-megapixel main camera, a 10-megapixel 3x telephoto camera, a 12-megapixel ultrawide camera, and a 12-megapixel front-facing camera.

The S24 Ultra and S24 Plus support 45W charging, but the charger isn’t included. Samsung claims you can go from 0-65% in about 30 minutes. The regular S24 supports 25W charging, which will get you 0-50% in about 30 minutes. All three models launch with Android 14 and One UI 6.1 and have IP68 for water and dust resistance.

Titanium is the new black. The S24 Ultra now features a Titanium body. It’s not copying Apple, though. These phones were in development long before Apple introduced Titanium. The Titanium S24 Ultra looks fantastic, by the way.

The S24 Ultra is surprisingly light. It’s only a gram lighter than the S23 Ultra, but the difference is noticeable. Samsung used Armor Aluminum instead of stainless steel, so the weight difference isn’t as drastic as with the iPhone models.

The S24 Ultra now has a 5x optical zoom. Samsung has replaced the 10x optical zoom lens with a 50-megapixel 5x lens. This allows for 10x optical zoom without compromising quality. Switching between 0.6x to 1x, to 2x, to 3x, to 5x, to 10x is now a breeze.

Space Zoom is still available on the Galaxy S24 series, with up to 100x on the Ultra and up to 30x on the S24 and S24 Plus.

Pre-orders for the new Galaxy S24 series are now open. Units will start arriving on January 31. The Galaxy S24 starts at $799, the Galaxy S24 Plus at $999, and the Galaxy S24 Ultra at $1,299. Only the Galaxy S24 starts at 128GB, while the other two start at 256 GB. But here’s a sweet deal: Samsung is offering a free storage upgrade for pre-orders. So you can get 512GB of storage on the Galaxy S24 Plus or Galaxy S24 Ultra for the regular price. Now that’s a steal!
